More than 4 million Australians live with a disability and they all have a story to tell. The ABC is partnering with International Day of People with Disability to tell a range of stories by and about people with disability across ABC Online, Radio, TV and View. December 3 is the United Nations' International Day for People with Disability (IDPwD), a day to increase awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.
As part of the coverage, the ABC put out a call for people to pitch their own story of disability. More than 1,300 people submitted their stories from all over the country. Every story is unique. Every disability — whether it's a mental illness, an amputation, progressive illness or a rare genetic condition — has its own challenges and stereotyping that people have to deal with.
