Description:

Sailability is a program that offers an additional level of support, an established network of volunteers, and equipment to assist people of all-abilities to get into sailing. It is an international program first introduced to Australia in the 1990’s, which has grown to being available in every state.

Sailability Albury Wodonga is passionate about providing access to the sport of sailing to those who would otherwise have difficulty accessing sailing. The program provides the opportunity for people of all abilities to progress to their ultimate potential level on the sailing pathway.

The Hansa Dinghies used are ideal for people with limited motor abilities, whilst still being fun for able-bodies sailors. They are easy to sail and cannot tip over. We have 2 types of ballasted dinghies available, the Hansa 2.3 & Hansa 303.

Volunteers from the Albury Wodonga Yacht Club and the local community offer their time and expertise to assist in the program. They are all keen to share their experience and love of sailing. Volunteering roles include safety boat drivers, deck hands, sailing crew, operations (rigging boats, safety & sailor briefings, hoist transfers), Instructors, administration, fundraising, PR & community awareness, maintenance and repairs of the yachts.

Our Club runs a Sailability afternoon at Albury Wodonga Yacht Club once a month during the Summer sailing season. These are open to people of all ages with a disability, including intellectual and physical. Participants are able to come along and have a short sail in one of our Hansa dinghies. We can arrange a sailor to join you or with some instruction you can sail on your own. Details of these dates are available from the link on this website and prior registration is essential.

Group booking can be arranged by appointment for those who wish to book their own 3 hour session. Similar to Sailability afternoons, participants enjoy a sail in our Hansa Dinghies. Depending on the number in your group booking will determine how long each participant will be able to sail on the water. These group sessions are ideal for carer groups, schools, rehabilitation providers, etc.

To find out more you can visit Sailability Victoria at https://www.facebook.com/sailabilityvictoria/

Extending from these experiences is the opportunity to progress to Discover Sailing Learn To Sail Programs.
